This Autumn 2023, the National Trust at Flatford and the Â鶹´«Ã½, have partnered to present three special creative writing workshops at one of Suffolk’s most iconic locations.
Flatford, made famous by landscape painter John Constable, will host three workshops taught by writers from the Â鶹´«Ã½’s acclaimed MA Creative and Critical Writing course; Muriel Moore-Smith and Caroline Roberts.
The first, on Saturday 2 September, “Writing Nature, Environment and The Landscape” will look at the natural landscape and wildlife at Flatford and includes a tour and talk at Valley Farm Kitchen Garden.
On Saturday 14 October, the workshop “Memories of Water” explores the history of the waterways that run through Flatford and the memories they create, evoke and inspire.
The final workshop on Saturday 11 November called “Remembrance of Lives Past and Present” is about real people who have lived and worked at Flatford, and will reflect on our cultural heritage. This workshop also includes a tour and talk at Bridge Cottage.
Dr Amanda Hodgkinson, Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing said: “These Creative Writing workshops are designed for everyone from those who have never put pen to paper to experienced writers.
“You can join just one or all of the workshops available and each session will encourage creative responses to our iconic Suffolk landscapes through personal stories and shared words.
“The National Trust will also provide a tour and talk to accompany the workshops.”
Workshops are £30 per person and bookings for each can be made here:
