Dr Rachael Martin is Course Leader for the MSc Applications of Psychology and is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology for the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. She is an experienced educator, having taught at West Suffolk College from 2007 for a period of 11 years in further and higher education before joining the Â鶹´«Ã½ in September 2016. Her teaching ethos is that knowledge is something that is accessible to all.

Rachael is an expert in Cognitive Neuroscience with a focus on emotional disorders. Her research explores the neurological and behavioural indices of mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. The current aim of Rachael’s research is to examine how best to help those experiencing the symptoms of mental health issues.

Rachael is currently module leader for Level 5: Qualitative Research Methods, Level 6: Fundamentals of Cognitive Neuroscience, Level 6: Individual Differences; Level 7: Psychology Placement, Level 7: Self-Directed Research and Level 7: Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. She supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and is currently co-supervising six PhD students.

Understanding the Self identification of Autism in Adults: a Scoping Review in Review Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.

Rachael’s general research interests lie in the use of neuroscience to understand human behaviour. Her specific area of interest is determining the neurological correlates of emotional disorders and to establish whether this can be modified using cognitive bias modification techniques.

Rachael collaborates with several local charities and organisations that provide placement opportunities for our master’s students. She also has close links with the Psychological and Therapeutic Services team at Suffolk Country Council who support our educational psychology curriculum.

Rachael has worked on projects with a number of external partners to deliver training, conduct research and generate research output.

Rachael is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
