Overview
This dynamic and exciting BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Post-Production degree programme provides a progression route to full Honours degree for students holding a Foundation degree in Visual Media Production (or similar post-production/visual FX level 5 qualification).
This course provides a detailed knowledge of the production context and an understanding of related disciplines that informs visual effects practice, emphasising the importance of complementary filming and visual compositing skills. In addition the course is designed to help you evolve from being a learner to a practitioner with strong creative and technical awareness.
You will explore many different areas of CGI and visual effects to help you build a wide skill base before focusing on a more specialist area with exactly the skills your chosen industry requires. Immersive technologies and the introduction of virtual production has altered some of the production processes for film making and this is explored within the course to ensure the viability of students' skills and knowledge within the future industry.
It is an exciting time to join the Visual Effects industry, with a shortage of skilled creatives in the CGI and VFX industries opening up many career paths.
You will develop the problem-solving and reflective abilities necessary for study and subsequent work within these industries. The programme has a focus towards film and television post-production editing and visual effects compositing with strong elements in 3D workflow, animation and visual effects – an area in which skills shortages in the industry continue to be identified. The art of Visual Effects and Post-production is being seen more frequently within modern film releases and TV programmes, we aim to give students the opportunity to enter this industry and produce visually stunning pieces of work.

This module is the culmination of your conceptual, practical and creative development on the course and covers the finishing stages of production where all elements of your final films are completed. The elements should consist of Props, CG models, and Actors, ‘live action back plates and matte painted plates if required.
This module will focus mostly on the design process to contextualise the technical 3D CGI aspects
of the Major VFX project and in the creation of a range of appropriate assets which may include; environments, matte painted backplates, fluid elements, textured models, character rigging, live action green screen, motion capture scenes etc. All the individual pieces in pre-production format to be fully created, composited and animated within the Major VFX project.
This module will help you develop a broad practical understanding of the core technologies employed in the production of immersive environments and digitally mediated audio-visual performance. A series of lectures will offer an overview of the current and emerging immersive technologies and how they are being employed within the film, TV and games industry. Realising successful immersive and interactive experiences requires specialised technical skills and production processes, which differ from those you may be familiar with from film and TV production. On this unit you will develop your knowledge of the techniques, technologies, and conceptual understandings involved in producing VR, AR, Mixed Reality and interactive media.
